Celebrating Black History Month

Black History Month Card with Smoking Advisor Johnsonbliss

Spotlight on Johnsonbliss Osaro, Stop Smoking Advisor

With the theme for Black History Month 2025 being ‘Standing Firm in Power and Pride’, we’re shining a light on some of the incredible people who make ABL Health’s purpose possible — by effecting positive change, improving lives, reducing health inequalities and empowering communities.

Meet Johnsonbliss Osaro, one of our dedicated Stop Smoking Practitioners, whose work helps people across our services to quit smoking and live healthier, smoke-free lives.

Listening, Empathy and Understanding

Johnsonbliss supports clients through behavioural and motivational approaches, combining practical tools like Nicotine Replacement Therapy with the power of listening, empathy and understanding.

“Reflective listening is key. It’s about hearing people’s experiences and helping them find their own motivation to change — not just telling them what to do.”

Bridging Health Inequalities

For Johnsonbliss, ABL’s people-centred vision deeply resonates.

“ABL’s focus on bridging health inequalities aligns with my own values. It’s about putting people at the centre — listening to them, understanding them, and creating a service where both clients and staff can flourish.”

Originally from Nigeria, Johnsonbliss’ passion for health equity was shaped by his early experiences. Growing up, his mother — a nurse — ran the only small community pharmacy in their area. Seeing how vital that access was inspired his path into medicine and public health.

“From a young age, I saw the difference one person could make in improving access to healthcare. That experience drives me every day to make health services more accessible and fairer for everyone.”

Purpose, Compassion and Dedication

We’re honoured to celebrate Johnsonbliss and all our colleagues this Black History Month — people whose purpose, compassion and dedication help build a healthier, happier future for all.
