Low pressure by design
We explain each step in plain language and treat the assessment as a chat, which helps anxious children and adults feel at ease.
Compassionate autism assessments for children and adults through our BeU services, with support before and after diagnosis.
For many families and adults, an autism assessment is the start of understanding themselves better and getting the right support at school, at work and at home. BeU makes that process as calm and clear as possible.
We assess children and young people aged 4 to 18 in North Yorkshire, and adults aged 18 and over in Norfolk, through GP referral. A multidisciplinary team reviews each assessment. Every person or family then gets a written report that parents, teachers and health professionals can all use.
For commissioners, that means assessments people can act on, and families supported to move forward once they have an answer.
5days
People hear their outcome within five working days of assessment.
4to 6 weeks
Everyone is followed up after their outcome, then monthly if they’re still struggling.
MDT
Each assessment is reviewed by a multidisciplinary team.
Step 1
Referral
A GP refers the child or adult to us when they think the person may be autistic.
Step 2
Assessment
An in-person session of around 90 minutes, and a friend or family member can come along. For children, we also hold a detailed conversation of around three hours with a parent or carer.
Step 3
Outcome within five working days
The person or family meets a specialist to hear the outcome and gets a personalised care plan. Anyone who disagrees can ask for a second opinion.
Step 4
Support afterwards
We follow up four to six weeks later, then monthly if someone is still struggling. Everyone gets access to our online resource hub, whatever the outcome.
We explain each step in plain language and treat the assessment as a chat, which helps anxious children and adults feel at ease.
Parents and carers are part of every child’s assessment, from the first conversation to the care plan.
Our work covers pre- and post-diagnostic support, so people aren’t left on their own once they have an answer.
We write our reports in clear language, so schools, GPs and families can all act on them.
Our reports are written so schools, GPs and families can act on them straight away. We link people to local support and our online resource hub whatever the outcome, and work with education and health partners so the right adjustments follow the diagnosis.
