One You Kent Service overview
One You Kent is Kent’s free, countywide lifestyle and wellbeing service, supporting adults to make positive, sustainable changes to improve their health and reduce the risk of long-term conditions. The service provides evidence-based support including smoking cessation (whole of Kent), weight management, physical activity and healthy lifestyle interventions (East Kent only), delivered through a strengths-based, person-centred approach. Working closely with GP practices, Primary Care Networks, local authorities and community and voluntary sector partners, One You Kent is embedded within local communities to ensure support is accessible, inclusive and responsive to local need. The service plays a key role in reducing health inequalities across Kent through partnership working, community engagement and flexible delivery models.
Role Purpose
The Engagement Officer will lead on community engagement, partnership development and referral growth activity for the One You Kent Service across a defined locality (East or West Kent), whilst supporting county-wide priorities where required.
The postholder will work at neighbourhood and community level to build strong, sustainable relationships with local partners, increase awareness of One You Kent and maximise appropriate referrals into the service. This will include engagement with a wide range of stakeholders including local authorities, Primary Care Networks, GP practices, secondary care, community and voluntary sector organisations, leisure providers, employers and local residents.
Working collaboratively with operational colleagues, the Engagement Officer will identify opportunities to strengthen referral pathways, support community-led approaches and contribute to reducing health inequalities through partnership working and co-production.
The role supports ABL’s strengths-based and asset-based approach to community development, focusing on collaboration, innovation and partnership rather than duplication of existing provision. This is a varied, dynamic role requiring flexibility, organisation and confidence in working independently and collaboratively. No two days will be the same.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the delivery of the ABL Community Engagement Strategy by building and maintaining strong relationships with local partners, healthcare providers, community and voluntary organisations, employers and community groups to promote One You Kent and develop effective referral pathways. They will identify new partnership opportunities, attend and facilitate meetings, represent the service at local forums and events, and deliver presentations and awareness-raising activities. The role will also involve supporting outreach and health promotion activities, particularly with underserved communities, monitoring referral trends and identifying opportunities to improve engagement and access to services. Working closely with ABL’s Communications Team, the postholder will contribute to local marketing and communications activity, including social media, campaigns, case studies and promotional materials. They will maintain accurate partnership records, monitor and report on engagement activity and referral outcomes, contribute to service development and continuous improvement, and support events and service delivery when required. The successful candidate will work in line with organisational policies, safeguarding, clinical governance and GDPR requirements, while participating in supervision, training and ongoing professional development.
