Supporting families over the festive period

21st December 2017

Families are receiving food hampers thanks to donations from ABL Wirral, Wirral’s stop smoking service and Wirral Council’s public health team.

Employees took part in a ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ in November and December to collect food and toiletries for the Wirral charity Community Spirit.

Elizabeth Woodworth, at ABL Wirral, said: “Community Spirit Wirral does an amazing job supporting people across the borough and we were more than happy to get involved. This is a great charity to support – and just a small donation can make a difference to people who may be struggling.”

Rebecca Mellor from the council’s public health service said: “Mandy Upton and her team of volunteers, supply food, often daily, to the homeless and working families alike.  The team is on the streets of Birkenhead every week feeding 60+ homeless and vulnerable men and women. They also support people in domestic abuse situations and provide clothing and furniture and a listening ear.”
