Employees at The Deep have been practising yoga against the tranquil backdrop of the spectacular aquarium as part of an innovative workplace health scheme.

Health specialist A Better Life (ABL) is aiming to put wellbeing on the agenda for workplaces across Hull in support of the City of Culture’s Five Ways to Wellbeing campaign.

Victoria Sharpley, Programme Manager at ABL, said: “The physical and mental wellbeing of staff needs to be taken seriously by employers as poor health leads to more sick days and a dip in productivity – which ultimately has an impact on profit. We’re on a mission to make a big difference to local organisations by helping workforces to be healthier and happier.

Award-winning aquarium The Deep is one of the first to sample what’s on offer.

Louise Kirby, Director of Operations and People at The Deep, said: “The Deep is delighted to be able to work with ABL to provide Crew with opportunities for fun and accessible activities.  We recognise the benefits of a proactive approach to employee health and wellbeing for the individual, the company and our region as a whole, and it has been a pleasure to deal with ABL to develop a bespoke programme of events.  Our Endless Ocean has certainly been a stunning location for yoga, but the quality of teaching and support from ABL will be first class, we are sure, wherever it takes place!

Organisations in Hull can access weight management support from ABL in partnership with the city council – and it doesn’t cost a penny. Lifestyle coaches will deliver 121 and drop in group sessions, healthy eating or exercise sessions on site during lunch breaks or other suitable times for your staff.

There are also a variety of added programmes that you can buy in to including personal training and group exercise, canteen and café advice and support, cookery sessions and lunch tasters, nutrition support and diet plans, and mental health sessions including mindfulness, stress management and positive mantras.
