Was back to school week manic?

The start of September can be a busy time for parents as we struggle to get the kids back into a routine after six weeks of summer holidays.

Here are some tips to help you get back to a healthier, happier way of life …

Eat breakfast!

When the alarm clock goes off and your family are thrown in to the early morning rush to get ready and out of the house, don’t forget to make time for breakfast. It’s an important meal as it gets your metabolism going so you’re ready for the day ahead.

Leave the car at home when you can

If you are able to, walk your kids to school. It’s a chance to get out in the fresh air and wake yourself up, a good way to exercise at the start of the day, and you’re also helping to save the planet by cutting down on your car’s emissions.

Make healthy packed lunches

Make your kids – and yourself – a healthy packed lunch and get them involved in deciding what to put in it! Bulk prepare healthy treats like carrot sticks so you’ve got enough for the week ahead.

Be active outside of school

Where you can, make time to take your family to the park or engage in an activity you all enjoy like swimming or running to keep yourselves fit. A healthy body equals a healthy mind which can really help as the nights draw in and winter approaches.

Make the best use of your time

Try to find ways to ensure you have that quality time available to spend with your family. For example, rather than arriving home and spending an hour in the kitchen preparing dinner, why not throw something in the slow cooker the night before that will be ready when you get home and will last for a few days.
